Interested in a Career in Nursing ? ...

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has been embracing the variety of opportunities arising from the Governments Apprenticeship Reforms Funding and supporting individuals on the route to a great career in Nursing.

The Trust and the Open University (OU) have been collaborating to deliver apprenticeship programmes to increase the number of registered nurses and nursing associates on the Island.

The lack of bursary and cost has made attending university for many a difficult option to commit to but the apprenticeship schemes unlock the career path to nursing. It has been helping people to access this career choice and in turn help boost the skills shortage locally and nationally as it provides employment with crucial on the job training.

The Nursing Associate is a highly trained support role to deliver effective and safe nursing care across a wide range of health and care settings. Nursing Associates are registered with the Nursing Midwifery Council and work independently and with others, under the direction of a registered Nurse. They will support the Registered Nurse in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care.

The Trust is holding information sessions for those who may be interested in applying for the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship and who are available to start in February 2020.

Two separate information sessions will take place in the Conference Room (opposite the Full Circle Restaurant) St Mary’s Hospital on:

Wednesday 7th August 17.30 – 19.00

Wednesday 18th September 17.30 – 19.00

Christina Ring, Trainee Nurse Associate “I was looking at changing jobs and wanted to become a nurse but did not want to incur student debts and I needed to work to support my family, so a traditional route into nursing wasn’t for me. Starting the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship Scheme has really opened the door to nursing. I am earning while I train and get so much support from the Trust and the Open University. The course is extremely rewarding and I have learnt so much already, plus everyone at the Trust has been really welcoming and supportive it is a great place to be”.
